We are proud to announce that in December 2017 BOLSAS Y MERCADOS ARGENTINOS S.A. – BYMA has signed a commitment letter with the United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative. BYMA now joins almost 70 stock exchanges around the world, which are committed to promote sustainability and transparency to capital markets.
Mr. Ernesto Allaria, BYMA President, said: “We are proud to join SSE today. BYMA is developing sustainability initiatives in several areas. We are progressively working on strengthening internal practices of Corporate Governance.
Our aim is to professionalize and start a gradual change towards best practices and international standards, which will generate positive outcomes in our corporate culture. We have been analyzing other markets around the world for the purposes of generating a new segment with higher standards of Corporate Governance, to which companies will enter voluntarily.
BYMA has been inspired by Brazil’s Novo Mercado B3 and it is also assessing other sample cases for the purpose of adapting them to the Argentine Capital Market and its regulatory framework. BYMA projects to become the first company to list its stocks in this New Segment and we would like other companies to join us in this endeavor for the benefit of society as a whole.
We are also working together with Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (Bank) to create a Sustainability Index for the purpose of identifying leading companies in ESG. This drive towards sustainable development allows BYMA to be more aligned with International Stock Exchanges best practices and to provide visibility to companies, so they may also gain access to new financing methods.
Both projects will be launched during 2018. BYMA will share its experiences and other positive developments in Argentina working together with related peers in order to contribute with building a sustainable future”.
