BYMA launches the first Sustainability Index of the Argentine market

It is the result of a joint work with the Inter-American Development Bank and aims to highlight companies with good practices in Environmental, Social, Sustainable Development and Corporate Governance matters.
BYMA, together with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and with the support of Grupo Clarín, launch a Sustainability Index that will identify and highlight the leading companies in Environmental, Social, Sustainable Development and Corporate Governance (ESG-D).The Index is non-commercial in nature and evaluates the performance of BYMA-listed issuers in the four ESG-D pillars, based on information reported and available to the general public. The methodology is based on IndexAmericas and the data analysis is carried out by Thomson Reuters. It is the first index of its kind in Argentina, aimed at promoting the visibility of companies with best practices, so that they can access new types of financing. The objective is to raise awareness and sensitize the capital market to the benefits of sustainability: improved ability to attract capital, brand reputation and positioning, and human capital loyalty. In this regard, the president of Bolsas y Mercados Argentinos, Ernesto Allaria, stated: "We are proud to announce this new feature for the capital market. BYMA's corporate values have to do with the internal strengthening of ESG-D and the generation of tools for companies to follow the path of sustainability. He added: "With a focus on transparency, this drive towards sustainable development will allow us to align ourselves with the standards of international stock exchanges. "As part of this commitment, the local stock exchange obtained in 2017 the membership of Sustainable Stock Exchange Initiative (SSE) - a United Nations Sustainable Stock Exchanges initiative. It will also soon launch a Corporate Governance panel that will include shares of companies already listed on BYMA that adhere to good governance standards. With this index, BYMA reinforces its involvement with the evolution of the Argentine capital market.[URIS id=7744]How is the methodology? The index is based on the IndexAmericas methodology, created by the IDB Group, in alliance with S-Network Global Indexes, the Earth Institute of Columbia University; using data from Thomson Reuters.
