BYMA presents the 2022 rebalancing of its Sustainability Index

BYMA presents the fourth rebalancing of its Sustainability Index, which highlights the leading issuers in Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance matters as well as the contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (ESG-D).

This is the first index of its kind in Argentina, aimed at promoting the visibility of the issuers that present the best performance in ESG-D issues.

The development was created in 2018 with the technical support and know-how of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the academic endorsement of the Earth Institute of Columbia University and with data from Refinitiv, which analyzes the performance of issuers through its ESG indicators and provides objective ratings based on publicly available sources.

The objective of the Index, which is non-commercial in nature, is to generate awareness and sensitize the Capital Markets regarding the benefits of reporting and being a sustainable company: identifying new business opportunities, improving the ability to attract capital, reputation and brand positioning, human capital loyalty, among others.

‍New methodology in force since 2022

In September of that year, a new methodology was approved in order to expand the universe of analyzed and eligible issuers. Prior to this change, the issuers analyzed were those that had been part of the S&P MERVAL INDEX. As of this new rebalancing, the issuers analyzed are those that are part of the S&P BYMA GENERAL INDEX. For the launch, a training session was carried out jointly with the partners: Inter-American Development Bank, Earth Institute of Columbia University and Refinitiv, to explain the process of data collection based solely on publicly available sources and how broadcasters can actively contribute to it.

‍The index is comprised of the following companies, which are listed alphabetically.

‍The President of BYMA, Ernesto Allaria, expressed: "Each rebalancing of the Sustainability Index is good news, both for the issuers that are part of it and for the ecosystem and for the generation of positive impact in Argentina. The visibility of good practices seeks to inspire and promote that more and more broadcasters think about their actions based on their contribution to sustainability". And he concluded: "We are proud that the index can play a multiplying role in this sense". 

‍About the Sustainability Index

‍● The index is non-commercial in nature and evaluates the performance of the issuers comprising the S&P BYMA GENERAL Index in the four ESG-D pillars, based on information reported and available to the general public.
● The methodology is based on IndexAmericas and the ESG indicators are surveyed by Refinitiv, which analyzes and provides objective ratings based on publicly available sources.
● Refinitiv has a tool called "Contribution Tool", through which it gives each issuer the ability to view and contribute its ESG content.
