Interest in financial education has increased and people plan to continue training
Personal finance is a leading topic in the daily life of Argentines, along with some associated questions: how to organize the day-to-day economy and savings; how savings can generate a return; and what are the alternatives so that money does not lose value; among others.
And in this sense, in 2023, the Capital Market acquired greater visibility among the options that people may consider when it comes to boosting their economy. Therefore, the theme that stood out was "how to start investing". This is shown by the data surveyed by BYMAEDUCA, the financial education program of Bolsas y Mercados Argentinos (BYMA), among the people who took BYMAEDUCA trainings during 2023.
What about financial education in Argentina?
Increased interest of Argentines in training on Capital Market investment topics. The number of participants grew exponentially. After some initial experiences with free training in 2022, in which just over 1,100 people participated, in 2023 a total of 30,760 participants (+2,629%) were registered over 14 courses.
They addressed a wide range of topics on Capital Markets: from introductory to advanced, short and more extensive.
Participation of women and men. Of the total number of course participants, 27% are women while 73% are men. These figures show a similar situation to that registered in 2022: 25% women and 75% men.
The introductory trainings registered +30,000 participations. The courses focused on providing knowledge and tools to start investing or learning how to obtain financing, which were given by specialists and which awarded attendance certificates, are the ones that generated the most attraction among participants.
The topics focused on key concepts about Capital Markets. Among them, introduction to the market; how do I build my investment portfolio; trading and negotiation; investment alternatives: negotiable bonds, options and futures, bonds, CEDEARs, stocks; investments and taxes; financial calculation; bond calculator.
Asynchronous consumption is a crucial tool. Videos of BYMAEDUCA course lectures are available on BYMA's YouTube Channel for participants to watch at their leisure. There is a growing trend of asynchronous consumption of these trainings. Reproductions of introductory course class recordings (180,500) multiplied by 6 times the total live participations (30,281).
Before taking the course, 73% of introductory course participants had only some knowledge of finance and investments. On the other hand, 9% confirmed knowing nothing previously about the market. In terms of educational level, 27% completed high school and 59% have a degree or tertiary degree. While only 1% have a postgraduate level.
