More and more Argentines are choosing the Capital Market to transform their savings into investments. This is demonstrated by the data from the operation of BYMA, Argentine Stock Exchanges and Markets, during the first half of 2024, a period during which some indicators already exceeded the totals of the first half of 2023. At BYMA, investors can find the widest range of products in the local market, ranging from stocks and CEDEARs to mutual funds; fixed income instruments such as bonds, treasury bills and negotiable bonds; securities; futures; options; term by lot; loans; checks, promissory notes, with participation both in the primary as well as secondary markets.

What was the Capital Market activity during January-June 2024?

Client accounts. The total number of accounts in the Securities Bank - a repository of negotiable securities in the entire country - grew by 87% compared to the number with which it ended last year. Today there are 13,101,832 open accounts. The monthly average of accounts that traded during the first half of 2024 was 1,227,381, which represents an increase of 186% compared to the monthly average for the same period 2023.

Among the new accounts in the first semester, 62% were opened by men, while 38% were opened by women. This indicates a greater participation of the latter group, since at the end of 2023, women represented 32%.

Evolution of operations. The trading volume of all products also followed the growth trend. It exceeded USD 536,324 million (expressed in MEP dollars), which represents 91% more than the volume of the first half of 2023. If we compare it with the 2023 total, the annual result has already been reached by 85%. Consequently, the average daily trading volume (ADTV) expressed in MEP dollars has been evolving since the beginning of the year. Since April, it has remained above 5 billion dollars (expressed in MEP dollars).

The total number of operations has registered a steady increase with peaks of operations exceeding 900,000 in one day. The highest so far this year occurred on 15/07/2024 with 954,070 transactions, representing a growth of 75% compared to the January-June 2024 daily average. And 92% more than the current January daily average. On July 16, there were 934,431 transactions, while in May and June the records in one session were above 728,000 transactions.

What provinces are the investors from?

The geographical distribution is the same as last year, 53% correspond to accounts in Buenos Aires and Capital Federal; while 47% are in the interior of the country. The provinces that stand out are Córdoba, Santa Fe and Mendoza. This scenario approximates the distribution of the population of Argentina, according to data from National Population, Household and Housing Census 2022, which shows that BYMA is federal and the Capital Market is increasingly accessible.
